Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect when I visit Calvary Lufkin?
On Sunday mornings you'll see people with name badges and big smiles located around our campus - they are our greeters. They'll answer any questions you may have and direct you to a Life Group (Sunday School Class) or Worship, or our Welcome Center. You'll find that our campus is spread out with lots of buildings - our greeters will be glad to help you.
You can also expect a warm welcome - we really are glad to see you. During our worship service, feel free to sit in any vacant seat. We have a time of general welcoming, lots of great music, a Bible-based message by our Pastor, Randy Brown. Each week there is a time to worship God through the giving of tithes and offerings. As a guest, please do not feel any pressure to give. This is an act of worship for our members or regular attenders, allowing them to thank God for all of the great work he is doing in their lives and support the work of God through Calvary.
Do I need to dress a certain way?
Wear what you feel is comfortable and appropriate. We do not have a dress code and we certainly wouldn’t want you to worry about this! Some people wear jeans and t-shirt, while others come in “business casual” attire. Some people prefer to dress up, while others prefer to dress down. We are more concerned about your heart and your needs than we are about your clothing. So dress casually and modestly and you’ll fit right in.
Is childcare available during Life Groups and Worship Services?
During Life Groups (Sunday School) at 9:30 AM we provide a nursery for children who are infants through age 2. For children 3 Years old and older we provide Life Groups where children connect with other children and a caring adult while learning to follow Jesus.
During our Worship Service at 10:45 AM we provide a nursery for children who are infants through age 1. For children age 2-4, we have Surge, an extended worship session. They participate in great Bible stories and fun activities.
During our evening worship we provide a nursery for children who are infants through 4 years old.
What type of music is played during our service?
Each Sunday we have a blended worship service at 10:45 AM that blends familiar worship songs, both traditional and contemporary. Our choir is featured as well as soloists and special groups. The service lasts between an hour and an hour and fifteen minutes.
What version of the Bible does the pastor use in sermons?
Most Sundays the pastor uses the NASB translation, due to its reliable translation.
How do I become a Member?
If God is leading you to be a part of the family of faith known as Calvary, there are three ways to unite with this church.
1. Baptism - after receiving Jesus into your heart, the believer identifies with Jesus through the ordinance of baptism. Baptism is an outward testimony that you have received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
2. By Transfer of Membership from another Baptist Church - A member in good standing of another congregation may unite with Calvary with a letter of recommendation from that previous church.
3. By Statement of Faith - someone is a member of a church in another denomination may unite with Calvary by a statement of faith that they have received Jesus into their life and have been biblically baptized by immersion.
At the end of every morning service, our pastor extends an invitation to those who need to make a decision, which includes uniting with this church. You may speak with him then.
